The Allen house is off the ground!

“OMG can you breathe?! It’s so exciting!” and my personal favorite, “That house is ready to fly away!” — these are just a few of the messages I got this week from friends who’ve been following along as we moved the house!

The last 10 days have been an absolute whirlwind, but honestly, everything has gone incredibly smoothly — especially considering how many people were involved in this stage of the project. For the most part, everyone kept their cool and no tempers were lost… at least this week!

As of today, the well is complete, the culvert is almost finished, the electric has been moved, and most importantly — the house has officially been moved. Our 125-year-old farmhouse is now hovering just inches above its new foundation, waiting to be lowered into place once the basement is poured.
Even though the whole process was so cool to watch, my favorite part was seeing Luke’s dad and uncle — the two boys who were raised in that house — there to witness it. Dan, Larry, and his wife Ann, were able to be part of this moment, sharing stories from their childhood and watching history in motion. They even made the paper! (Big thanks to Luke Gronneberg at the Sidney Daily News for covering it!)

Next Up: the basement gets poured, the septic system installation begins, and we’ll be wrapping up a lot of the little details so that renovations can finally start. Meanwhile, on the farm side of the chaos, Luke’s been slammed with his real job — cutting and baling hay, and getting new fencing installed. First cutting went off with minimal equipment issues and, more importantly, no rain! With Grady working full-time this summer, Ty’s been promoted to Farm Manager and has really stepped up to help with daily chores. Once Grady’s off work, he usually comes back over to help until dark — either here or with his friends. Everyone’s in full swing right now, and after all that rain earlier this season, you won’t hear us complaining!
